The Job: Installing a Wren Kitchen in a Newly Renovated Home

In late 2018, Mr. McEwen contacted InstallXL to install a Wren kitchen in his newly extended and remodelled Tilehurst property. The house had undergone major structural changes but was still an empty shell, requiring a full internal fit-out.

As part of the wider project, we arranged and project-managed trusted subcontractors to install a new smart heating system, feature staircase, complete electrical and lighting works, lay engineered wood flooring, decoration throughout and much more. However, our focus was the kitchen installation, ensuring a flawless fit and finish.

The Design: A Modern L-Shaped Kitchen with an Island

The kitchen features an L-shaped layout with a peninsula attached to a central support pillar. Thoughtful design choices helped optimise space and functionality:

• The sink run has standard 720mm wall units set higher, creating a more open feel and allowing better use of the sink.

• The hob run has varying wall depths, with the hob section set into the deeper section, while some units to the right are reduced in depth for a streamlined look.

• The peninsula provides space for stools at the rear and plenty of storage with three sets of drawers on the kitchen-facing side.

The Build: Precision Wren Kitchen Installation

Wren's pre-built units made installation straightforward, with a few modifications for a seamless finish:

• Some units were reduced in depth to ensure the hob run appeared as one continuous line.

• The heavy ceramic undermount sink bowl was carefully integrated into the sink unit.

• Wren templated the quartz worktops and returned a week later to install them.

• We then completed the kitchen by fitting appliances, cabinet fittings, drawers, and doors.

• A subcontractor handled the wall tiling, and we installed the under-unit lighting for a polished look

The Result: A Contemporary Handleless White Gloss Kitchen

The finished kitchen is a modern, handleless white gloss J-pull design, perfectly complementing the newly refurbished space and set against oiled oak engineered flooring.

Storage that comes out to you – wide drawers maximise convenience, space and efficiency.

Key features include:

• White quartz worktops with striking feature veining and matching wall tiles

• A white hob to blend seamlessly into the design

• Built-in appliances, including a dishwasher, oven, and microwave and tap with a filter

• Pendant lighting over the island, adding warmth and character
